Demography India, Vol. 50, Issue 2, July-December 2021

From the Chief Editor’s Desk

Greetings!

The world has been struggling to come out of the COVID crisis facing one after another wave of the mutating coronavirus. Several articles that appeared in this journal earlier tried to study the growth, spread, and transition of coronavirus, associated mortality, and mitigation strategy. The inclusion of COVID-related articles continues to be our priority. This issue of Demography India presents twelve articles including one article on COVID-19. The readers would find diverse topics of interest covered in this issue such as population projection in India showing population stabilization by the middle of the 21st century but changing regional composition of population may have huge implications for inter-state migration. In the future, cities are going to play an even greater role in economic and social development, and a robust city population projection would be very helpful. One of the papers demonstrates the use of the Bayesian approach in city-level population projection. Further, this issue also presents important research works on migration, slum population, childhood morbidities, non-communicable diseases, school absenteeism, and human and regional development.

We hope that the papers published in this volume would be fascinating to the readers. I take this opportunity to thank our authors, many reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board without whose support this volume would not have been possible. I also express my deep appreciation for Dr. Harihar Sahoo for managing the review process, communications, and publication of this issue of Demography India. We sincerely welcome any suggestions and comments to improve the Journal.
