From the Chief Editor’s Desk

Greetings!

As you know that the publication during COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging task. The life and livelihoods of millions of people have been affected. In India the second wave started in the first week of February peaked in early May 2021 was one of the deadliest. It took a heavy toll of many young lives and made us realize the terrible lack of health care and health infrastructure in the country. However, compared to the first wave the crisis of the second wave was tackled with concerted but decentralized actions. It is most likely that the future demographic research shall be greatly influenced by COVID-19 impact on almost all demographic outcomes related to fertility, mortality and migration.

As we are struggling out of the second wave of pandemic, this issue of  Demography India presents thirteen articles and one book review. It contributes to our understanding of fertility differentials among social groups, demographic opportunities and challenges related to malnutrition, disease burden, disability, covid among police, health care, migration and some of the emerging issues related to elderly and women. We hope that the papers published in this volume would be fascinating to the readers. I take this opportunity to thank our authors, many reviewers and members of Editorial Board without whose support this volume would not have been possible.  I also express my deep appreciation for Dr Harihar Sahoo for managing the review process, communications and publication of this issue of Demography India. We sincerely welcome any suggestions and comments to improve the Journal.
